We aim to do the very best for your child. We will work hard to provide the environment, help, resources, discipline, etc. that will mean she or he has every chance to fulfil both your hopes and her/his potential. We try to make sure that every child's individual needs are identified and met so that they are happy to be a part of our school.

We consider that a child's success in education comes from a partnership between home and school and we will be looking to you for your help and support. The staff and myself are always available to discuss any concerns that you may have about your child.

I look forward to meeting you soon.

The School
Grampound Road Village Church of England School is a co-educational school with approximately 100 children on roll whose ages range from 4 -11 years.

The new school building was completed in April 2003. It has four classrooms, each with its own cloakroom area. There is a large Hall that is used for PE, Assemblies and dinner time and an ICT Suite/Library. There are thirteen online computers, a good selection of teaching software and approximately two and a half thousand books from which the children may choose to read.

Outside there is a soft play area and two hard playgrounds. The large field is used on dry days for playtime and for games lessons. The grounds are well laid out and there is an outdoor classroom and an outdoor stage area. There is also a Quiet Area for the children.

The school is a Church of England School. As an aided school the Church of England assists in the basic educational provision by providing and maintaining the school premises. The governors are responsible for the curriculum with support from the Local Education Authority.

As the school is part of the Church of England, the character of the school has to follow the principles of the Christian Church. The Diocesan Board at Truro is closely involved in the life of our school. Back to top

Discipline
The school has adopted a discipline policy based on positive behaviour. The school aims to provide a happy and secure environment, to develop a caring community and to encourage children to develop self discipline. There are clearly identified school-wide rules and specific class rules, which specify the boundaries for the children.

There are agreed systems of rewards to encourage and acknowledge positive behaviour. The children are aware of the sanctions that will be operated if they do not comply with the rules. The sanctions are based on warnings, the need to be 'withdrawn' from a situation and the opportunity for reflection.

When children misbehave they can expect to be punished. Where persistent misbehaviour takes place we may seek the co-operation of parents in solving the problem. Serious misbehaviour may also be brought to the notice of the school governors. The support and co-operation of parents in all matters of behaviour and discipline is much appreciated. Back to top
Pastoral Care, School Ethos and Values
We aim to achieve a happy, family atmosphere with a close working environment. Relationships will be supportive and encouraging, the level of expectation will be realistic but arrived at maintaining high
standards.

Year 6 children are encouraged to help in this atmosphere by becoming
Captains and School Councillors, to help with the care of younger children, to support staff by helping with jobs, to help with day to day
organisation.

We are very aware of the importance of links with our community and work closely with the local Playgroup. Back to top
Educational Organisation

The teaching in the four classes varies, depending on the subject being taught, the aims of the lessons, the availability of resources and the age of the children.
The approaches will vary from whole class teaching to small groups and individual work. Back to top
Curriculum
We believe that all children should have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, which offers a wide range of experiences and opportunities and is appropriate to all. The organisation and planning of the curriculum is based on the requirements of the National Curriculum with support from the DfEE guidelines.

Our curriculum aims to develop knowledge, skills and awareness, so that children can work confidently and with enjoyment.
In the Foundation Stage social development is a central aim of the curriculum to help form positive attitudes and relationships. The curriculum will ensure that a child's start in education is positive, welcoming and supports whole child development. The home/school partnership is essential in the process.

There is a main emphasis on the core subjects of mathematics, English and science. These are supported by foundation subjects and religious education.
